Frostgrave Board

Since deciding we are going to play Frostgrave I have had this nagging inclination to create a new board to play on. In the garage is a ton of spar wood, especially 2 sheets of 4' by 2' chipboard which have Frostgrave almost carved into them!

So here are some shots of the early stages of the board. Before I started adding things to it I mixed up some PVA and water with a drop of washing up liquid in it and painted the whole surface.

Then I referred to my sketch book form a while back and looked at some drawings I made for a Mordheim board. These were the basis for my new Frostgrave board.

When it had dried I marked out a 3' by 3' section in the middle, this would be the gaming area.

Next I draw onto the board where I was going to add details to create a crumbling city feel: to do this I looked back in my sketch book to my Frostgrave board designs. They actually did help, by giving me a starting point.

Then I spent an evening cutting some very thick card into the shapes I wanted to detail the board with. ( it had previously been a kids jigsaw) This killed my fingers and gave me blisters!

The next stage is to use the grout I found left over from when I tiled the bathroom to create a textured surface, using a sponge and a plastic bag to make small stipples.

Need to paint the card areas black, then lighter shades of grey.

Took this pictures this morning, but to my surprise the grout had not dried.
Will leave it, which actually works fine since it is Serefina's birthday today :-)

Seems to be working OK, the buildings will stand up and so will individual models, like my apprentice Enchanter, Dene Lopit. Will check walls later.

Chess Clock

Ordered a chess clock the other day for a couple of reasons. Mainly because when I turned up to the Outpost recently for a tournament I realised I needed a chess clock, I thought it would be provided. So never wanting to be in that situation again I bought this Leap model, cost £10.70 including P & P.
(mail ordered from Bang Good)

Another reason why it has become useful is because our club, the WWarriors, are probably going to have a timed tournament along the lines of the Clocks of War event.

Roughly its a Kings of War event where the games get quicker as the evening progresses. Players have a 1000 point army firstly.

First game is 25 mins: second 15 mins: third 10 mins per person.

This makes for some fun and furious games and I'm looking forward to the event.

KOW: Earth Elementals

Just about completed the new Earth Elementals for the Dwarf army I took to the tournament on Sunday. I still think there are things they need to finish them off. But for models made from bits of foam board, stones and sand I think they're OK.

Will add some clump foliage and some lichen to lighten them.

The original model I made 2 years ago.

KOW: Dwarf 2000 point army for Winters End Tournament

Had a great day yesterday, played over at the Grid in Doncaster.
Played Tom, Alex and Darren and got roundly beaten each time, but had a good laugh.

I took my slightly revised dwarf army, but it did not cut the mustard, as it were, and in the end I came last out of 8 and Luke who came with me from WWarriors came 7th.
Not a good day for dwarfs, Luke has an all Slayer/Berserker list.

Tilly refused to remove herself from the pictures and I felt the Dwarfs had already lost enough fights for the time being, so she stayed :-)

Will post some close ups of the new finished Earth Elementals tomorrow, they really still need some lichen and other bits to finish them.

KOW: Second Unit of Brock Riders

Have been working quite hard for the last couple of days on these new Brock riders, which are in point of fact, rhino/hippo riders but there you go.
Will be using them in the tournament on Sunday over at Doncaster: The Grid

I based these in two parts this time, just to give me a bit more flexibility. This way I can field 2 troops or a regiment.

As per usual these are really made on the cheap, just a bit of time and effort.

The dwarfs are 80's models bought from Ebay dead cheap, and the rhinos and hippos are from Home Bargains- about 48 animals for £3.99. This is my second unit from 2 boxes, I still have loads left.
Nearly run out of Dwarfs though :-)

Never buy my Green Stuff from GW its very expensive 4" or 20g for £7, on Ebay I can get 36" for about £9.95 including postage. (correct at date of posting)

Mordheim: Latest Building

Nearly finished the construction part of my newest building for Mordheim and the last one I am going to be making for a while.

As per usual it started out as a box corner, marked and cut as shown in previous posts.

One thing I have learnt is not to attach the floors until all the interior cladding has been glued in place.

And to run the cladding all the way up the interior, not necessarily breaking for the first floor.

I haven't quite got round to the window frames on the interior or exterior and then need to add some PVAcrete to fill the holes. Lastly I need to add a hard board base to give the model some weight.

But this should be done sometime next week: will post then.

KOW: New Earth Elemental Models

This was the first Earth Elemental, although at the time I was just messing about with off cuts of foam board and PVAcrete, that I created for Quest. But it had obviously deposited a seed of an idea in my mind and 2 years later this monstrosity has become the template for my re-make of the Earth Elementals for KOW.
No more bears, although they will be moving into a Herd army I have planned for future.

Initially built from scraps onto a card base.

Then covered in PVAcrete.

Next stage will be undercoating in black.

I really need these finishing before Sunday as I am playing in a tournament at The Grid in Doncaster.
Recon I can do it ;-)
